Q: Can I have multiple copies of the same card with the same art?
A: Not currently. Due to current production times, only content that is available (in stock) during a show will be available for purchase. I will take custom orders to be produced and sold on future shows to the requestor though.
Q: If I send you a picture that I want on a card, will you create a custom card with it?
A: No. Since I don’t know where that image may have come from I will not create a commercial product that might infringe on someone else’s copyright or intellectual property .
Q: Can I buy proxies directly from the website or via Discord?
A: Not at this time. Currently, all sales can only be conducted via my WhatNot channel. There are plans to potentially add eCommerce to the website and/or open an eBay store where players can buy cards direct and on demand.
Q: How often do you do shows on WhatNot?
A: Shows are not on a regular schedule yet. Shows will be announced on Discord and scheduled on WhatNot. Moving forward, the plan is get a routine showtime setup for at least 1 show a week but there is currently no ETA on when that schedule will be realistic while I work to get content created and everything setup.
Q: How long does it take to get a custom card created?
A: Currently, there’s about a 2-week lead time on card creation. It isn’t practical to only print 1 card at a time so I tend to send several cards to the printer. The local printer has about a 3-5 day window (business days only, i.e. M-F) from submission to product delivery. Once delivered from the printer there is some final prep/review that I perform before making a card available for purchase. Improvements/Reductions to this time are in review and subject to change in the future because the goal is to be more responsive to custom requests.
Q: After I buy a card through WhatNot, how long does it take to receive the proxy?
A: All cards purchased during a WhatNot show are mailed out via USPS. Depending on USPS and the distance between our respective geographic locations, the cards may take a few days to arrive. WhatNot requires any purchases to be shipped out within 2-3 days of purchase so really whatever the USPS delivery times are plus that initial prep & pickup after each show.
Q: What all art can you create?
A: I use multiple AI art generation tools like Midjourney and Civitai to create the images used on my proxies. With those tools, just about anything can be created. However, I do not create NSFW proxies. Magic the Gathering is a family-friendly game and one that I raised my kids to play. As such, I don’t want to sully the game by introducing pornographic cards. PG-13 anime girls in skimpy outfits is one thing but full nudity or images involving any type of intercourse or sexual act is considered off-limits.
Q: When I look at cards on the website, I can't zoom in, click on the image to see it in a bigger frame, or right click it to save. Why?
A: Currently, all images posted on the website are listed as previews only amd are only intended to show interested buyers what might be found on my WhatNot shows. Since the website does not provide e-commerce capabilities, the website was not designed to include detail viewing of a single card. The purpose of the website is primarily to preview collections of future and past sales.
Q: I see a bunch of images not associated with cards on the website. Can I buy those arts or commission a card using those arts?
A: Yes. The "Artwork" section of the website is a generic display of many of the images created but not selected for cards during the creation process. Interested parties can click the link beneath each image to email me with any specific requests. The images can be sold as-is for non-commercial use OR can be turned into the MtG proxy of your choice. Pricing depends on which option you might like and any associated production/shipping costs that may be required.
Q: Is there a way to search for a specific art or card on the website?
A: Not at this time. The website's simplicity means that there is no index or searchable catalog that records card features or details. If things grow and progress to the point of needing such a capability, the option always exists for a website redesign.
Q: If I want to have proxies for an entire deck created, can you do that?
A: Yes. The easiest method for that would be to have the desired decklist created as a deck on Moxfield.com. I can download and import decklists from Moxfield into my custom proxy software to ensure that every card is accounted for and properly populated with the expected values (name, cast cost, type, power, toughness, card text, etc.). I can create entire decks by hand but the Moxfield approach is generally much quicker with less risk for error.
Q: I just recieved my cards. They don't all seem to be the exact same size. Why?
A: The cards are produced using local services, i.e. printer, cutter, etc., and not large-scale industrial printers. The cost to use large commercial services would undermine the cost effectiveness of selling/using proxies. The use of smaller local services does mean though that there may be millimeters difference between individual cards. We strive for quality but still emphasis cost effectiveness that allows us to offer proxies at a reasonable cost to you.
Q: Do you create exact copies of real Magic the Gathering cards?
A: No. I create proxies of cards using custom art in a custom template with custom icons. I will not create a replica of an actual MtG card. There are services and websites out there where you can create/purchase such a card but not here. For my proxies, the card text will be accurate to the original card but that's it. Everything else will be my custom creations.
Q: Do you make proxies for other games besides Magic the Gathering?
A: Not at this time. Other tcg cards may be added to my output in the future but there are no current plans or goals to add new games to my proxy offerings.
Q: I want to see proxies featuring characters like Batman or Pikachu. Why don't you have proxies with those characters?
A: Certain characters and intellectual property (IP) are fiercely guarded by their owners. For me to produce content using those copyright protected characters would open me up to legal action and potentially costly fines and/or jail time. As such, I try not to produce content that will run me foul of copyright infringement lawsuits.
Q: Do you create proxies using custom card text or names?
A: No. All cards I produce are based on legitimate MtG cards using the official names, types, text, etc. I know other services are out there that will allow you to create cards with the text values of your choice but that is not currently a service I provide.
Q: Can I use one of your proxies in an office MtG tournament?
A: No. By rule, no proxy, regardless of its design, is allowed in official tournaments. Official cards have various ways of being identified by tournament officials and players caught trying to use proxies, i.e. unofficial cards, are subject to bans. I would not recommend trying to sneak a proxy into a tournament.
Q: Why does it take so long to load images on your website?
A: Currently, the images are full size images with no compression. The sheer volume of images of that size can take considerable time to load depending on your browser and internet speeds. Plans are in motion to improve website performance but when dealing with so many images at the size I want to display them, speed will always be something of a concern.
Q: Why do your icons look different than standard MtG icons?
A: Technically, Wizards of the Coast (WotC) owns the copyright to the various design elements you see on standard cards, i.e. icons, font, borders, frames, etc. My custom designs emulate the accepted MtG layouts that are familiar to players but leverage custom icons, images, etc. to hopefully avoid any copyright infringement issues.
Q: Can I use your custom icons to create my own cards or artwork?
A: No. The custom icons, card templates, and AI artwork is under my copyright and is not publicly available.
